Was poking around over on Reddit, and reminded myself there’s an Oppo reddit... basically in case Kinja ever disappears. But I can’t post there, anyone know why? Clearly not a big issue, just curious. I’m a “member” but when I create a post, I can only click on Save Draft, the Post button is gray/inactive.
I did participate in the last Behind the Burner and was able to post then. Hmm

I was able to post an image post. Unsure why you wouldn’t be able to, unless you’re not logged in for some reason? Glitch in RES? Dunno. Who do we have here that are mods there? The FB group has way more activity.

Oh a slightly unrelated note, I abhor reddit, for some reason. If we were to lo se oppo proper, I don’t think I could stomach a transition over to reddit.

I’m not sure I could either. For all the crap we give Kinja, it’s pretty good actually. Reddit feels like 1998.

True on the FB side, but I not only have heard ... things... about that side, I generally don’t use FB much anyway. I keep my account because it’s helpful to reach acquaintances and check local events, etc. but otherwise there’s not much for me there.

The thing is, Oppo is a much tighter group than reddit subs tend to be. I was so happy with the way the /r/r egularcarreviews sub was running, until we hit the 5k sub mark and all the shitposters came out of the woodwork. Every nonfiltered Reddit userbase is too broad and will inevitably go down to the lowest common denominator of the enforced standard, that’s just numbers at work.

There are bugs with Kinja, as there are with pretty much everything, but for the most part, it works pretty well. It’s gotten a lot better in the 6 years that it’s been around.

TBH I can’t make heads or tails of who is posting on the FB group and most of it seems like silly arguing mixed in with some Oppoish info. I just keep in around because I have seen far worse.

I don’t enjoy the general discord of reddit, plus it feels like it’s one giant circle jerk. There’s just something very off putting about it for me, maybe it is the size.
Oppo has always, even before mods, been a very civil and unique place. I don’t really think another platform is going to recreate that. I try not to use facebook at all, so that’s a no-go for me as well.

I enjoy the group here very much. I think it is because we mostly subscribe to a level of civility together. Few people manage to disrupt that thing and then wind up staying. Takes just one bad apple, as the say goes.
But you know how it is, you can manage a group of 5 pretty well, 25 decently, 50 ok, and 200 is virtually impossible without 8 other people with your same mindset. People don’t really scale.

Huh. Thanks for looking. I still have the issue, at home with a chromebook I see a little hand (like you’d see when clicking a link) but with a circle/line through it saying “NO” to click on the POST button. hmmm... not a big deal, but weird.
